The formation of CEA3 is the catalyst for durable and diversified ‘value-added’ agriculture in Alberta.

What is Controlled Environment Agriculture in Alberta?

Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) optimizes growing environments for year-round indoor production of plants, mushrooms, fish and insects combining the science of agriculture, engineering and technologies to locally produce valuable food and food ingredients.

 

These production facilities may be within existing building structures (such as warehouses), or integrated into free standing systems (such as shipping containers). The production technologies may include LED lighting, hydroponic, aeroponic, terraponic, aquaponic and related systems. 

 

As a definition, Controlled Environment Agriculture, includes indoor agriculture, indoor farming, vertical farming, container farms, and plant factories.
